Strategy and Branding
With a desire to focus on the energy & environment and agribusiness sectors, the County of Elgin engaged Yfactor to develop the vision for the identity of Elgin and deliver a 5 year marketing plan including implementation map and KPI’s. Yfactor was further retained to develop the new branding and motto.
The marketing strategy, logo and motto were unanimously approved by Council and went on to win awards from both EDCO (Economic Developers Council of Ontario) and EDAC(Economic Developers Association of Canada)

Profiles and Collateral
A complete set of marketing collateral was created including a business investment attraction package consisting of a folder, community profile, municipal profiles, brochures, tradeshow booth, promotional items and more. Yfactor coordinated photography and developed all content, maps, charts and graphics and coordinated printing.

Website
Working in partnership with the County of Elgin IT department, Yfactor developed the website for economic development to mesh with the systems and infrastructure required by IT.
The website content architecture and plan incorporates current economic development best practices. It is built on a content management system that non-technical County staff can use to update and manage the site. Flash animations and social bookmarking tools make this site stand out. Extensive charts, graphs, statistics and complete site selection content makes this site a practical tool for investment attraction.

Virtual Tradeshow
To promote its largest businesses, Elgin County engaged Yfactor to set up a permanent virtual tradeshow. This 3Dinternet based environment is open to all visitors and provides a new means to access businesses, view their slideshows, read about them, download their information, set up appointments or visit their websites.

Website
Brenham needed to update the look of their website, significantly increase traffic to the “Prospector” section of their website and improve site organization and navigation. Yfactor provided a website content architecture plan based on current research of site selection trends, a new interface design and a navigational structure the linked “Prospector” from all pages on the site. The result is a dynamic, modern and effective website. In addition, the website runs on Yfactor’s iCMS content management system making it quick and easy for one or more content authors to update.

Strategy and Profile
One of Alberta’s youngest and fastest growing Cities, the City of Airdrie retained Yfactor to analyse existing marketing materials and to develop an innovative and forward-thinking 3 year marketing strategy and implementation plan. Yfactor was also retained to develop the motto for economic development and the Community Profile which establishes the new brand for the bold vision of this municipality. The unusual colour scheme and dynamic usage of powerful graphics makes this a Community Profile that is sure to stand out.

Marketing Plan and Investment Attraction Profile

Yfactor was engaged to develop a 5 year marketing strategy heavily focused on sector specific investment attraction tactics and coupled with a detailed, hands-on implementation plan. South Simcoe Economic Alliance
Marketing Plan and Implementation
In partnership with the current committees and various municipal representatives, Yfactor developed the name, the branding, a 5 year marketing strategy and assisted in the implementation of the plan for this Regional Economic Development Alliance (REDA).
Sub-Projects included media planning, Web site planning and implementation, original photography, writing and dissemination of
e-newsletters, writing and design of brochures and profiles, advertisements, an annual report and more.

South Simcoe Economic Alliance
Website Plan and Implementation
Yfactor has been managing the Web site for the South Simcoe Economic Alliance for over seven years. Through a combination of marketing initiatives, Web site management and site traffic generation tactics, traffic has been increased from zero to over 20,000 visitors annually and has achieved Google number one rank on a variety of search terms.
Even though this is a relatively low budget website, it continues to garner the praise of site locators, businesses and a wide range of stakeholders. It was selected as one of Canada’s Top 10 economic development sites by “Site Selector” magazine and won a prestigious award with EDCO (Economic Development Council of Ontario).

Township of Springwater
Visual Identity
To prepare Springwater Township for improved resident communications and investment attraction, a fresh, innovative municipal brand and visual identity was needed. Yfactor created a new identity based on historical research, council, staff and stakeholder input. A visual identity manual and a report that addressed considerations for the implementation of the visual identity were included along with key performance indicators that can be used to measure the effectiveness of the brand over time.

Web 2.0 Website Marketing Plan
Yfactor worked with Prince Edward County to develop a Web site strategy narrowly targeted at a dozen carefully selected sub-sectors of the “Creative Industries”. The strategy is heavily focused on using Web 2.0 technologies and sites, including Face Book groups, You Tube networks, Wikipedia, social bookmarking, search engine optimization and email marketing strategies.

The Golden Horseshoe Biosciences Network (GHBN) is a regional network of research organizations, companies, universities and economic developers involved in biosciences, biotechnology and related fields.
Yfactor designed and developed the GHBN Web site, which included a content management system, search function and animation. Yfactor also designed and produced related marketing materials.

Greater Toronto Marketing Alliance
Marketing Materials
Yfactor completed a range of projects for this Regional Economic Development Alliance (REDA), including an Annual Report, 4 sector brochures and a business directory for the biotechnology sector.
The business directory CD ROM included an introductory video, a searchable directory database, information and statistics about the sector and links to further resources. Yfactor handled all aspects of the project, including research, writing, design, print and delivery.

Series of Sector Profiles
Yfactor worked with the City of Hamilton to develop a series of sector-specific business attraction brochures. Economic content, such as statistics, business information and photographs of local business drove the information design of the brochures. Database, CD Rom and Website
Yfactor worked with Toronto Economic Development and the Greater Toronto Marketing Alliance to create a comprehensive, searchable database of companies in the biosciences sector. The directory can be searched by keyword, as a whole or by sub-category, including medical,
pharmaceutical or medical research. The directory is updated regularly and the updated data is made available both on CD Rom and on the Web Site.

Business Directory CD Rom
Yfactor worked with the City of Brampton to develop a searchable directory of businesses located in the City of Brampton.
The directory is made available for purchase on CD Rom. Directory data can be searched by a range of criteria including business size, NAICS codes, postal codes and more. Data can then be exported in a number of different formats for use on mailing labels or other applications.

Sesquicentennial Keepsake CD Rom & Booklet

Yfactor worked with the Sesquicentennial Committee to develop a concept that would capture the history of Brampton in a friendly, inviting, interactive way. Working within budget limitations while meeting a range of stakeholder requirements, Yfactor developed a searchable historic database and kids fun stuff pages, all delivered as a CD-Rom inside a booklet. The result was extremely well received by all and requests for the package were received from all across Canada.

Canadian Intellectual Property Office
Interactive Tutorial
Yfactor wrote and developed a Web based tutorial to assist small business leaders in learning how to effectively search the Canadian Trademark database. The tutorial was developed in both HTML and Flash and provides a simple, step-by-step guide to using complex search tools for searching this massive database using both text-based searches and image-based searches.
